Chrome Causes Almena to Hang at Startup

Postby Clifton » Tue Sep 26, 2017 1:03 pm

Reason for this problem:
The Almena program attempts to initialize the Adobe Flash player at startup. Chrome, by default, is set to either Ask or Block Flash programs from running. If the Almena program encounters the block (and sometimes Ask) routine, it may hang.

Solution: PLEASE FOLLOW EXACTLY AND CAREFULLY!
Add the domain pgsoftwaretools.com to your list of "Allowed" domains for Chrome to permit Flash program to run from.
NOTE: The method for white-listing the domain pgsoftwaretools.com in Chrome may vary depending on your version of Chrome and the OS on which it is installed. However, the basic idea is the same in all cases. The method shown here is based on Chrome v63 running on a Windows PC.
  1. Install or reinstall the Adobe Flash Player by going to the following address using the FIREFOX browser.
    https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
  2. Open the Almena program IN CHROME and allow it to hang at the opening screen. Make sure to use the exact link provided to you in the delivery email you received when you made your purchase.
  3. Go to Settings:

  8. Enter the site [*.]pgsoftwaretools.com and click ADD

Restart the browser and try running the Almena program again USING THE EXACT LINK provided in your email when you made your purchase. Chrome should now ALLOW Almena to initialize the Flash player and the program should work fine for you.

As of Chrome v68+, the layout of Chrome settings and the ability to add a security exception has changed.
Please use the following method to get things working:
  1. Using the exact account link provided when you made your Almena purchase, open Chrome and paste the link in the address bar. Press enter and allow the browser to hang at the opening screen as shown below.

Almena hangs because Flashed is blocked by default in Chrome.

  2. Click the icon to the left of the address bar of the browser to open the security settings for pgsoftwaretools.com.
NOTE: A new tab will open in your browser. Do not close the previous one!
      OpenChromeSettings.png
      Click on Site settings.

  3. Make sure that allow is set for both of the options shown in the security settings page.
      SecuritySettings.png
      Set security settings as shown.

  4. Close the security settings tab. An alert will inform you to reload the Almena program page. Click on reload.
      ReloadAlmena.png
      Click RELOAD.

  5. If the Almena program hangs, this time it is because the address bar link was not refreshed during the reloading of the tab. If this happens, please paste your exact account link back into the address bar and press enter. The Almena program should now load to the login screen as shown.
      ChromeAlmena.png
Correct settings permit Almena to load to the login screen.

  6. NOTE: Unfortunately, some users report that the Flash setting does not stay selected to Allow between browser sessions.

  7. If the above issue occurs for you, on each new Almena session you may have to change the Flash setting to Allow again and reload the browser window. At least this time the settings are easier to access.
      ChooseAllowEachTime.png
May have to choose Allow Flash with each Almena session.

      ReloadAgain.png
Close the setting panel and click reload.

Hopefully, Google will fix the failure of the Flash setting to stay at the desired position.
